Promising new led technology

Postby KneeDeep » Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:42 pm

The original LED developer Professor Shuji Nakamura told about a new method in the manufacturing process of LEDs, which helps to significantly reduce the size of the lights while the light power output remains the same. Nakamura is developing a new semiconductor manufacturing method which is believed to lead to brighter LEDs while simultaneously lowering the prices significantly.

UCSB University researchers claim to have succeeded in creating a microscopic scale LED only 0.1 square millimeters in size. Five such chips would be the equivalent of the light output of a 60 watt incandescent light bulb. The problem with older LED technology has been the rapid deterioration of the efficiency of larger power inputs, which has made high-power LED lights manufacturing extremely expensive. With this new technology there is only a slight drop in efficiency when the input power is amplified.

Revolution of the LEDs can have a surprisingly large effect on indoor plant growing and technologies like the new aeroponics method.
